We need to drill for oil now!
T. Boone Pickens laid out a plan today in an attempt to make America less dependent on foreign energy.
Basically he calls for replacing natural gas with wind power, and then transferring natural gas reserves to transportation.
While the idea is interesting, it still largely ignores the self-induced problem coming about from American politicians refusing to drill for more proven oil reserves in America and off its coasts. There are billions of proven reserves just sitting there waiting to be used, but politicians and radical environmentalists refuse to tap into it.
This doesn't include the billions of barrels of oil that can be tapped in shale either.
One other thing, new technology has also resulted in huge finds of oil in Brazilian waters, where they can now find oil underneath the salt in the oceans. Something that couldn't be done in the past. Who knows how much oil is off American coastlines if these new methods were used?
T. Boone Pickens Talks His Plan for American Energy
The result is Americans are suffering now because the earth worshippers refuse to think of people as more important than anything else on the earth; including the earth. This is plainly evil. The Democrats especially should be ashamed of themselves, as they've brought most of this upon us by catering to special interest environmental groups.
The reason Pickens is promoting this is he's invested in a big way in wind and natural gas, and he'll make a lot of money if he can influence public opinion.
It's not that the idea is necessarily not worth looking into in general, but it's a fallback plan. Now we need to drill for oil, and produce what we already know we have, as well as increase the ability to produce through adding more refineries. The government foolishly stopped allowing new refineries to be built, causing more problems through their interference.
Many people are pretending we don't have oil available to produce, and so make it look like there is a great shortage about to happen; or is already happening. The truth is there isn't what is called "peak oil" at this time, as those promoting that fear are aware we have billions in known oil reserves we could extract if we chose to. They're playing a game of "let's pretend."
Let's pretend we need to do all these other things. Let's pretend there is no more oil to drill. Let's pretend we didn't create this crisis.
The first step toward easing oil prices is to start drilling now. The disingenuous assertion that it won't help because it would take several years to make a difference is ridiculous. People have been saying that for decades. If we had started tapping into our known oil reserves, we wouldn't be in the situation we are today.
We need to first drill in all the areas we know we have oil, and from there our oil companies need to use the new methods that can detect oil underneath the ocean salt.
Once we get that going, we can then look at realistic alternatives which will take probably at least a couple decades to figure out.
Wind isn't going to be an answer in the short term, just like any other idea. We need to do what we know works now, which is to drill for oil. Because of the horrid mismanagement and legislation from our American government, we are leaving billions of barrels of oil in the ground to appease a small number of noisy, but elitest environmentalists.
Drill now!
