I always like it when a company announces it's giving away something free in recognition of a certain day, even if, as in this case, it's National Donut Day in the U.S.
Whenever you combine the celebration of a special day with offering people something free, it just about always works. This is why if there isn't a day to celebrate in your specific industry, it's a good idea to create one.
Anyway, here's a map at Krispy Kreme (NYSE:KKD) where you can find the nearest store to your home to see if it's worthwhile taking the trip to get your free donut.
Actually spelled "National Doughnut Day," it is always the first Friday in June, and was created as a day to honor the "Lassies" of World War I, who went to the front lines and made meals, as well as cooked donuts in the metal helmets of the soldiers.
The Salvation Army also used the day to sell donuts and raise funds for their various services.
Here's a place you can go to find out a variety of days celebrated throughout the year which you can use to offer up different things to grab the attention of consumers.
