Knowing they are extremely vulnerable because of their misguided attempts to stop drilling offshore and within the confines of the United States, Democrats are scurrying and panicing as they attempt to deflect what may become the issue of the 2008 presidential race: something they don't want to happen.
It is starting to look like the expected landslide victory of the Democrats this election year may be put on hold, as not only are they perceived as weak on national security, but now they are being revealed as the socialists they have become, as well as opposing drilling for oil that would eventually help gas prices drop for the average American.
Now it's getting worse, as today, in response to the leadership of President Bush to get back to drilling oil offshore, the Democrats unbelievably called for the nationalization of oil refineries so they could "better control the flow of the oil supply."
As I said in the headline, it sounds like they're losing it, as nationalization of anything always ends up dropping not only quality and quantity, but artificially raises prices as well.
Look at the subsidy of corn-based ethanol as the latest example of this type of thinking, where it has raised food prices across the world as a result of the misguided policy.
With Americans tired of the continual increase in gas prices, Democrats know they're vulnerable as the stubbornly refuse to get rid of the influence of radical environmentalists and look out for the welfare of the American people.
Not only is the nationalization of oil refineries one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard, it is completely contrary to what really needs to be done to help things in the short term, and that is to drill and produce the billions of barrels of oil that are under the soil, in shale or under the oceans of American-controlled territory.
As many of the Democrats have said, if they lose the elections this year, when will they ever win it? They're right. Yet they're making almost every mistake they can on the road to what they thought was certain victory.
If they do lose it they will deserve it, as they continue to cater primarily to special interests and government control, rather than thinking about what's best for the American people and ways the market can better take care of it.
