Robert Cheruiyot pulled away from the pack and easily won the Boston Marathon on Monday, as he finished in a fast time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, 46 second. At one point he was on pace to break his own record of two years ago, but over the last mile he slowed down the pace and coasted to victory.
Cheruiyot's closest competitor was Abderrahime Bouramdane, who finished 1:18 behind him.
Winning the ladies division was Dire Tune, who, along with Alevtina Biktimirova, participated in the closest finish between two women leaders, with only two seconds separating them. Tune won the women's race with a time of 2:25:25.
Each winner walked away with the largest prize in major marathon history of $150,000.
The Boston Marathon reminds of the realities of business in those that stay the course over a long period of time, are usually the winners.
I say usually because in the course of running a business and management marathon, people must know, adapt and adjust to the changing economic realities around them. If they don't, they will simply go around in circles without making any headway.
Assuming business leaders are doing this, they will outperform those who think and work primarily with short-term strategies.
