Miley Cyrus and Brand Management

In my opinion, Miley Cyrus and her parents need to get a new management team for her, as whoever is counselling her to take the actions she's now taking are just plain ignorant and wrong.

Most brands and companies would give their professional arms and legs to command the loyalty from a fan base like Miley has done. To destroy that is ignorant at best and professional suicide at worst. Look at the lives of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears as an example.

This is not the way Miley Cyrus should go

So what's going on here?

Miley Cyrus is at the stage where thoughts on how she's going to go forward are being considered. She's growing up into a young woman, and that's always a challenge for those that have a younger fan base as their core customer.

The problem is whoever's advising her is getting her to go the provocative route, which doesn't fit in with her image at all, and will end up backfiring on her or potentially ruining her personally as well. Hopefully her strong family base will be enough to resist this and get her back on track.

With Cyrus either putting up pictures of herself online, or as in the recent photo shoot which has her posing seminude in the next issue of Vanity Fair, those managing her are saying it's what she needs to do in order to take things to the next level. They're making a huge mistake.

If Miley were to continue on with her wholesome lifestyle and image, she could have a career spanning decades, which would retain a built-in audience for a long time.

The reason why that is so is because there's a huge demand for that, and is a real differentiator from the pop culture we see today.

Sure Miley would have to change some of the songs she sings and merge into the world she's entering into as she grows up, but she could do that and take her fans with her.

The implication of people that urge young stars to go this route is that all young people end up living this way, which isn't true at all, just a fiction and illusion created by Hollywood and some in the press.

What they tell these young people is they'll lose their fan base as they grow up, when they start to gravitate toward more mature themes.

I don't disagree with that, but that doesn't mean that mature means slutty, and that all young women will end up that way and want to watch and listen to that type of music and videos.

The truth is that longevity in any business will be connected to maintaining your brand and core values, and fiercely protecting them. Those guiding Miley at this time miss the whole point, as they attempt to make growing up look like you're out of control.

That may work for a short period of time, but over the long term it is a dead end.

Think of Disney (DIS). They are able to continue to appeal to children and adults and the same time, as both still consider it cool to go to their theme parks and watch a movie together. Miley has this built in to her core audience, and if she can get management who understand this, she'll have a long, successful career ahead of her. If not, she just might become the next casualty in the child-performer category that ruins their lives at a young age, and never recover.

I think she looked a little pale in the final outcome or I think it was meant to look that way. For adults, it might not be a scandal but i think it is for some people because their kids look up to her and they think that posing that way is wrong. To be honest, I more like Miley Cyrus' music more than this kind of pictures, and she and Hannah Montana's worlds concert is my favorite: http://dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=100149&ru=279 , Miley! this was not a smart choice. You are just 15, before you do it, I think you should as your father first.
