With it being Administrative Assistants Day today (formerly Professional Secretary's Day), it's a good reminder of not only honoring these valuable employees today, but to appreciate them throughout the year.
A company finding a good Administrative Assistant, has discovered a gold mine. The myriad number of things that person or group of people do to make things run smoothly probably can't even be measured.
Here's some of the things business leaders have said about their Assistants:
"...always keep the ship running and moving in the right direction. It’s a great feeling to know you can count on any one of them anytime you need help. Even though they don’t always deal with customers directly, they are the real reason anything gets done around our office."
"...they constantly amaze me each and every day."
"Role model on how to treat fellow employees."
"Deadlines are always met."
"Saves our day, each and every day."
"Fills in as teacher, cook, dishwasher, nurse, field trip coordinator, and probably any other job you’d ask of her."
"Knows everything about every office machine we own."
These tributes from a variety of business leaders shows the extreme value a good Administrative Assistant adds to a business.
The one thing someone might think of as a manager, is to have this person gradually train someone to do their job, and be able to fill in at times. If you don't have a suitable replacement in case of the person leaving or an unexpected tragedy, you could flounder for months after losing them.
