Walt's drive to perfect the art of animation was endless.
An important aspect of Walt Disney in his continuous journey to perfect his art form, was that at the same time he wasn't afraid to put his current level of expertise in the area out there for consumers to enjoy. This is important to understand for those afraid of offering products and services at their current level of excellence.
This is one of those areas that can hold people back from success with their companies. In the drive for perfection, a company can hold back offering a product because it isn't to the ultimate level they want it to be. On the surface this seems and sounds right, but in reality it can kill a business.
We of course don't want to put out obviously shoddy products, but to hold back good products because they aren't at the level we ultimately envision, is to slowly kill a company.
If you look at the animated cartoons Disney (DIS) put out in the early years, they can't be compared in quality to those appearing later. That didn't keep Walt from putting out the best he had to offer at the time. To not do it would be business suicide. People were hungry for what Disney had to offer, and the ongoing improvement simply stirred up that hunger more, and created expectations that kept consumers coming back for more.
In other words, consumers knew Disney was striving for perfection, and knew every time a new animated feature would come out, it would be better than the last. They patiently enjoyed what was currently available to them, while eagerly waiting for the next "improved" offering.
All of this was made possible because people knew the passion and commitment of Walt Disney to delighting them with a continuous barrage of quality productions. He rarely let them down.
We can't be afraid to put out products as they are now, after working and doing the best we can with our existing expertise. If we continually put off our introduction of products because of existing limitations, we'll never create a highly profitable company.
Walt Disney wasn't afraid to present what he had to the public, while continuing to work on improving his art form. That's what kept consumers coming back for more.
