"...in a period of upheaval, such as the one we are living in, change is the norm."
One of the things Peter Drucker was getting at is most people in business accept the fact that change is unavoidable, and that's true. It's been forced on us whether we want it or not.
But what he further mentions, is people understanding it is unavoidable, "implies that change is like death and taxes it should be postponed as long as possible and no change would be vastly preferable."
The point is our attitude toward change, even when we realize it must be embraced, can cause us to lag behind other companies who embrace change not because they must, but because they want it.
It's not enough to recognize change must come, it must be embraced willingly and sought after. Change, in our day, has truly become the norm.
If you've ever studied business history, you'll know that change has always been there, but today's change is different in that it's accelerated to a higher speed.
When we embrace change as the norm, and not hold too tightly to the means to our business goals, we should find ourselves competing steadily in the marketplace.
We always must hold to who we are as a business culture, and the vision we embrace, but how we get there can't be written in stone, as we'll find ourselves unable to effectively compete.
It's the path we travel that always changes, not the base we work from.

Something should always be consistently followed, even though innovations are good. I think it is important to look and hold on to a solid ground, even in business. Otherwise, the ventures may not be as successful as it would have been..
