Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) was bombarded with bad news today, as not only was there news that owners of Mustangs from 2005-2008 needed to be brought in to repair air bag software, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also sent out a bulletin reiterating the need for Ford owners to take care of the cruise control switch problems, which many people haven't done yet. Only about half of the ten million cars affected have been brought in so far.
As far as the new problems with Mustangs, the issue is a needed change in the software to adjust the force an air bag is deployed, which at this time can injure a small woman or a large child not wearing a seat belt. It's specifically related to the passenger side air bag.
Cruise Control Problem
While a spokesman for Ford says they aren't aware of any more fires or accidents related to the cruise control problem, the NHTSA said there have been close to 60 complaints of fires in the vehicles since August 2007.
“Failure to have the switch disconnected could lead to a vehicle fire at any time,” the agency advisory said.
