"Buffett made a career out of taking the road less traveled."
As with anything else in life, taking the road less traveled could be good or bad for you, and in business it's the same.
Look at some of what are called "stars" in the entertainment industry. While many of them are taking a road less traveled by most, it's not a healthy of helpful road, and many times, as we've been seeing lately, it can end in their self destruction.
The same can happen in business. Reasons for taking the road less traveled aren't for the purpose of simply being a rebel, as interesting and exciting as that may sound to some. You take the road less traveled only because it makes sense.
Taking the road less traveled means you see something that someone else doesn't see, and you quietly go about building a company around it.
In the case of Buffett and his investing prowess, he gets exactly the same information and data everyone else gets, and yet the results he gets from the decisions made from the data, are anything but ordinary or the same as the vast majority of his competitors.
So taking the road less traveled isn't about being a "rebel without a cause," but more being a rebel "with a cause."
There has to be a reason other than simply being contrary for its own sake to reach success. Most the time it's coincides to the way we operate in connection to the way we view time.
Those that operate with a longer view of time, and know the market they serve, will outperform those over the years that are endlessly following the newest fad and hyped product or service.
That, more than anything, is the road less traveled in our own time. Warren Buffett has been on that journey for decades.
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK-A) and its shareholders have enjoyed traveling with him on that road.

This is a great post and I truly believe warren buffett walk the path where very few people choose. If I am not mistaken, he started investment before 12 years old and made some money. That's abnormal to many people and different from others too.
