Winfrey seemed to have a magic touch that could turn humdrum programs into interesting shows with solid ratings.
On another blog it talks about whether it's better to be revolutionary or evolutionary in our products and services. You can find out the answer here.
This post let's talk about the evolutionary process, which Oprah Winfrey has been so good at over the years.
Oprah has had the unique ability to look at something that is being done every day, or has been done over a period of time, and tweak it here and there and create a hit out of it. She's done it more than once.
A lot of compelling writers get people stirred up and excited by talking about revolutionary things, and they definitely have their place. But there's just as much power and opportunity in evolutionary things as there are in revolutionary things. As a matter of fact, there are far more in the evolutionary in my experience and observation.
The reason why is it takes a unique person to take a revolutionary leap, whereas just about anybody can look at something that already exists, and change or improve it to make a new product or service out of it.
The key to doing that is understanding what it is the current users of an existing product or service would like to go with it. In the case of Oprah, she has a pulse on the demographic she serves, and like anybody else, if she stays within that and responds to it, she's always successful.
Like she said recently about Oxygen, she didn't have her imprint on it, so it wasn't who she was or what she wanted.
Contrary to what a lot of people say and write, the truth is that the vast majority of products or services coming out, are all based on something that's already in existence.
Those able to add their unique twist and improvements to them are able to gain tremendous success. Oprah is one of them, and we can be too.
