"Countries trade with each other - or to be more precise people buy and sell from each other across frontiers - because that is the way to advance their interests. We do not need to beg people to trade with us - as long as we have something that people want, of a quality they expect and at a price they are prepared to pay."
Margaret Thatcher summed up in that above paragraph pretty much the entirety of what brings success to any business, or the reason for a business to exist.
Business is based upon - like international trade - the personal interests of people or businesses. Whatever stage of building and running a business you're at, you don't have to beg people to do business with you.
Margaret Thatcher explains why. If you've done your research right, you should know if you have a desirable product or service or not. Assuming that's true, and we have a quality offering and a price they're willing to pay, we will be successful. That's business, and that's business leadership.
Other than daily operations and servicing what we offer, there's not much more to running a successful business than that.
What keeps a business going and brings it longevity, is the ability to know when a product or service is maturing, and a new one needs to take its place.
The bottom line is tuning into what people want, and then providing it for them with quality products and a price they're willing to pay. From there we need to keep the pulse of our demographic and know when they're changing their wants or needs. We only need to be aware of it and be willing to adapt to their changing desires.
Focus primarily on that and any business should be able to survive over the long haul.
