"As you become more clear about who you really are, you'll be better able to decide what is best for you - the first time around."
What's important about Oprah Winfrey's statement is not when in your life you discover this, but that you do discover it. It's vital to understand that this is the journey we're on.
In reference to how it impacts management, it's really the deciding factor on the level of success we'll enjoy.
While she did say the clearer things are the better you're able to decide - and that's true - it's not always at the same stage of someone's life as it is for another.
Now we must consider the parameters of what Oprah is talking about here, and that is what's best for you. Until you're clear on that, it won't be possible to make the absolute best decisions as they pertain to you.
This doesn't mean you can't be successful or accomplish things before that, it means that once you see who you are clearly, it's at that time your decisions will flow in a way that suits you best. With clarity will come the best decisions.
Another important thing to understand, is just because it's best for you doesn't mean it's selfish. Look at the levels people perform at when they truly understand who they are. When they operate with their calling, they not only do what's best for them, but their best comes out for others, even without necessarily thinking of it in that way.
In the mean time, all we can do is do our very best, and keep our eyes open within to what it is that we are satisfied and happy with doing. Once we see that, decisions aren't hard to make, and the results will always be satisfying for you and your customers.
Look at how Oprah operates in this way to see the fruits of clarity and decisions based on that.
If you don't have that clarity yet, don't be discouraged, as I mentioned earlier, it comes to people at different times and circumstances of life. All Oprah is saying, is the sooner you discover it, the better decisions you'll make from then on.
