She never was embraced by feminism!
Here's how one woman writing about Mary Kay wrote concerning the feminist rejection of her:
"She should have been a feminist icon: a beautiful, savvy businesswoman who gave women the power to 'have it all'--without abandoning their families. Her company's motto: 'God first, family second, career third.'
"Of course, she never was embraced by feminism, because Mary Kay and her legion of pink-clad consultants who made up Mary Kay Cosmetics were anything but the victims feminists would have preferred.
"Mary Kay subscribed to what she called a 'Yes, you can!' philosophy. 'You can do it' she told her beauty consultants, ..."
You look at the prioritizing of Mary Kay, and you can see why she was rejected by feminists; it undercut, as the writer says, the victimhood mentality that holds back women rather than moves them ahead.
Many people, not just feminists, don't really want people to succeed, because success weakens their position. Even with women making great strides today, all you can hear is the oldliners talking about the poor victims, rather than the extraordinary success many women are achieving.
When people succeed, the usefulness of negative people is diminished, and nobody listens to them anymore. That's why a successful woman like Mary Kay flies in the face of their philosophy. It contradicts their assertions. They can't have that now can they?
Mary Kay empowered many women to become highly successful in the midst of difficult circumstances. She never denied there were times she was passed over for promotions in the corporate world, when her results were beyond those being promoted, but she refused to use that for an excuse, and she did something about it: she created Mary Kay Cosmetics.
She also understood that nobody, women or men, would succeed if you weren't "willing to pay the price and had the courage to dream." You aren't going to be successful simply because of your gender or any other reason. Neither is gender alone the reason someone is held back.
Mary Kay, even years after her death, is still castigated by some for perpetuating the fact that you can be successful. Some women resent her proclamations, understanding it weakens their victimhood position. On the Internet you can find all sorts of naysayers and negative comments on Mary Kay and her company, suggesting she's lied because they weren't willing to do what it takes to succeed.
But as Mary Kay said,"With your priorities in order, press on, and never look back. May all of your dreams come true. You can, indeed, have it all."
Mary Kay definitely proved all of that!
