On technology: "It rewards openness. Information can no longer be easily controlled nor ideas repressed nor societies kept closed. A networked world facilitates free minds, free markets and free trade."
Along with what Grove said above, another time he added that technology is neither good or bad, "Technology happens," he has said. "It's not good, it's not bad. Is steel good or bad?"
What he's getting at there is it's what you do with it that's important.
Concerning what he says about a networked world, I would say the same thing. While the network itself can't be considered good or bad, it has the ability to convey both.
This is one of the challenges we face in business today, as it relates to input and information: we have to be able to siphon through the dross to get the gold.
I think it's more accurate to say a network opens minds, opens markets and opens trade, rather than frees it; based on a network can represent either good or bad.
Just because we have openness and networking more than ever before, doesn't mean accuracy has increased. There are just too many crackpots and agendas floating around to accept things at face value. This doesn't mean we reject technology or open networks, just that we don't get so caught up and enamored with them that we don't use a healthy due diligence and cross referencing of information and data to ensure it's accurate and correct.
That technology has happened is obviously right, as it is also right that it's neither good or bad. It's humans that use technology, and what it does will be base on their input. It's always been that way, and always will be. That means that we always have to keep our guards up and tread carefully. It's part of just being responsible and cautious as we go forward.
