The highly successful partnership between The Salvation Army and Wal-Mart (WMT) is continuing on this year, as their "Red Kettle Campaign" kicked off on November 23, and will continue on until Christmas Eve.
Last year an extraordiny $30 million was raised in the Wal-Mart and Sam's Club locations across the country.
Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott, said about the success of the campaign, "Our associates and customers, who are some of the most generous in the nation, have provided tremendous support to The Salvation Army over the years. We consider the organization to be one of our closest, most important partners, and all of us at Wal-Mart are looking forward to the sound of bells ringing at our stores and Clubs once again this season."
Scott presented The Salvation Army with a $1 million check on behalf of the Wal-Mart Foundation today.
What I specifically like about The Salvation Army, is it actually helps people and need, and local proceeds are put back into their own general neighborhoods. They don't do the future thing where guesses and fear tactics are used to get money to save the world, whether the underlying facts on whether it needs to be saved are spurious at best.
For Wal-Mart, they were presented with the Evangeline Booth Award for excellence in corporate philanthropy by The Salvation Army. It's something they well deserve.
