"At the age of 19, she became the youngest person and the first African-American woman to anchor the news at Nashville's WTVF-TV."
Not all of us will know exactly what it is we want to do by age 19, but Oprah seems to have know the overall, general direction she wanted to take with her life.
In conjunction with her motto that "We Are Each Responsible For Our Own Life," she showed through her actions at an early age that she truly believed and lived it.
It's one thing to become the first African-American woman to anchor news at Nashville's WTVF-TV, and that's a significant accomplishment, but becoming the youngest person ever to do it is even more significant, as it revealed her tenaciousness and belief in her purpose, among all her competitors.
What's most important to me here isn't Oprah's age at her early accomplishments, but her absolute belief in what she wanted to do, and her ability and determination to get it done.
Personally I think we have within our DNA what it is we'll do in our lives. Whether we do it at the age of 20, 30, 40, or later isn't the point, it's that we stick with it even if we have to take detours along the way to get there.
All successful people, no matter what age, are always determined to succeed at a specific thing, and will never let it go even if it seems their current direction in life is taking them far away from it.
Oprah was one of those that would have kept at it no matter how long it took. We all need to adopt that same attitude and resolve as we live our lives in pursuit of a dream.
