"You have the choice. You can overcome and be a winner, or you can allow it to overcome you and be a loser."
Some people resent it when someone says you can be a failure, but we have to be a little thick-skinned and understand what it really means.
As it applies to business and business leadership, failure is alway one step or one action away from us; not always in the sense of losing a business or its collapse, but in being ready to give up.
The major difference between anyone or any business that succeeds is mostly connected to giving up or not.
Having said that, this doesn't mean we keep on stubbornly working on something or doing things the same way, and think that's what we're talking about. That's just another way to failure.
What being a failure involves is allowing actions that happen upon you and what you're doing, to overcome you and cause you to give up. We can give up on projects and processes that don't seem to work, without giving up. To personally or professionally give up because of outside forces or inside failures, is to lose.
Every stage of performing as a business leader forces us to make the decision to keep on going. We may not be aware of it, but it's always there.
That's a reason why Mary Kay said many times that those that are willing to go the extra mile is the difference between winning and losing. Those that fail and lose at something aren't willing to take the trip.
If we remain open to changing direction and always keep a close eye on adapting, along with never giving up, we'll be in a strong position in any type of leadership position we are in.
