"Of course it's the same old story. Truth usually is the same old story."
This statement by Thatcher is particular needed in the present world we live in. I mean that as it relates to business, although it could be applied to about anything.
In the midst of huge upheavals and change all around us, there are some things that never change in business, and we need to know what they are as it applies to the market and purpose we serve.
There are underpinnings to any business or operatin that if changes, make it no longer what it is or is meant to be. If that happens to us without knowing it, we'll probably end up being overwhelmed and overcome by our competitors who know better.
Each of our businesses have certain truths as it applies to them, we must not move off those truths in spite of what's going on around us. Usually they aren't very difficult to know or understand, it should be the reason the business was started and developed in the first place.
It's a matter of asking who we are and why we exist as a business. The answer, as it applies to our business, could be called truth. That "truth" must be maintained and held while changes go around us.
I'm not talking about digging in some way that puts us behind our competition, I'm talking about knowing what we must never change, and what is always up for development in new ways; or possibly even getting rid of old stuff we used to market.
Knowing the difference is the key to who will survive and thrive as a business, and who will end up failing. We must know which part of the story is objective and unnegotiable, and which part of the story must continue changing.
Those that understand and hold to these things, are simply those who will end up winning over the long haul.
