Evidently there are no filters in the state human resources department when hiring teachers, as another female teacher has had sexual relations with a young boy, while also running away with him.
The teacher, Kelsey Peterson, who is 25-years-old, has run away with a young boy named Fernando Rodriguez, a 13-year-old student. Peterson taught math and coached basketball at Lexington Middle school in Nebraska.
The latest news is Peterson probably has crossed the border into Mexico with Fernando.
There is concrete evidence of the sexual nature of the "relationship," as it was discovered on a school computer which had been seized by authorities.
Residents of the small town are in shock on how this could happen with someone that is supposed to be in a position of trust and allegedly responsible to protect the children.
This shouldn't come as a surprise, as it seems almost weekly this is happening. Just because people live in a small town doesn't mean they are protected.
But from a human resource perspective, this is a disgrace. It should be one of the most thorough background checks anyone should receive for a job. There is obviously a huge breakdown somewhere in the system, as person after person leaks through and ends up destroying the lives of children from a position of trust and power.
These evil teachers need to quit getting a little hand slap from authorities and receive some serious jail time for what they're doing. There also needs to be an inquiry into the methodology used to hire teachers, along with measures in place to keep a check and balance so people like this aren't as free to operate as they do.
If this was a non-state business there would be an outrage. It's time there's an outrage for these teachers seducing, taking advantage of and raping the children of America.
Update: Peterson was arrested in the Mexican border city of Mexicali, and Fernando is with relatives in Mexico as of this writing.

I'm curious, what sort of criteria would you recommend be used in a teacher background check to screen out potential future offenders when there is no previous criminal record on file?
