A recent study by research group The Corporate Library found that female board members make far more than their male counterparts, bringing in $120,000, in contrast to men bringing in only $104,375 on average.
As far as the number women now in boardrooms, they are outnumbered by males by about 8 to 1.
Overall in the U.S., board member compensation stands at an average of just above $100,000, including all board members.
Included in the report was results from over 25,000 directors from more than 3,200 firms.
The general compensation for all board members has increased by 12 percent from last year, most of that coming from a change in disclosure with some forms of compensation.
Previously a number of perks, cash and other types of compensation didn't have to be included in the totals. New regulations require public companies to diclose all costs of perks included with the board seat.
The cost of paying board members has also increased because more time, effort and input is expected from boardmembers than in the past.
Some shareholders are concerned over pay increases because even with increased responsibility, it's still a part-time job.
