Forget about Mexico and "South of the Border," the Canadian dollar reaching par with the U.S. dollar offers all sorts of opportunies on both sides of the snow ridge to make some money.
A lot of big companies on both sides of the border are developing strategies based on the parity between the two currencies.
Some Canadian bankers, like Ed Clark, are making great deals, as recently he picked up Commerce Bancorp of New Jersey for what is now considered a fire-sale price of $8.5 billion. The parity of currencies sliced a cool billion off the cost of the original deal.
American companies like Disney (DIS) have also been salivating over the event, as they have a huge surge in Canadians visiting their resorts; as well as other companies.
Border cities in the U.S. have also had a huge surge in business from their northern neighbors.
If you're from Canada, not only is the savings on entertainment, food and services a great deal, but if you're a business, I would be looking at buying needed products or services at this time, even if it's a little before the time you were expecting to buy. Prices haven't been this good since 1976, the last time the two currencies had reached parity.
This isn't only good for big business either, if you're a small business, I would be searching from both sides of the border for ways you can get more business or purchase at better prices.
The opportunities at this time are endless. Filter them through your business plan and purpose, and look for ways to move on this great moment in time for everyone around.
Forget about making money with currencies at this time, the best way to play this is in the buying or selling of businesses, products and services.
