Ben Mezrich, who wrote "Bringing Down the House," which became a New York Times (NYT) bestseller, has released a new non-fiction offering "Rigged."
Even though Mezrich's "Bringing Down the House" started slow, it did pick up and become very compelling over the last two-thirds of the book. If "Rigged" does better, and it sounds like it does, it could be a very compelling read.
The newest offering, which claims to be based on a true story about a young man who enters the Merc Exchange in lower Manhattan.
Talking about the exchange and the book, an Amazon.com book description says it's "A place where billions of dollars trade hands every week, the Merc is like a casino on crack, where former garbagemen become millionaires overnight and where fistfights break out on the trading floor.
"This ordinary kid has traded Brooklyn for the gold-lined hotel palaces of Dubai. He keeps company on the decks of private yachts in Monte Carlo-teeming with half-naked girls flown in by Saudi sheiks-and makes deals in the dangerous back alleys of Beijing. But the Merc is just a starting place.
"Taken under the wing of another young gun and partnering with a mysterious young Muslim, the kid embarks on a dangerous adventure to revolutionize the oil trading industry-and, along with it, the world.”
With the continuing impact and interest and oil, and the dearth of interesting business stories and books out there, this sounds like it's definitely a book worth checking out!
