Through the power of media, Oprah Winfrey has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world.
One of the more amazing things, among many, that comprises what Oprah represents, is her ability to connect with people and empathize with them. She can do it in a way that let's them know she's on their side, and at the same time, like her motto states, encourage themt that they must take responsibility for their own lives and actions.
She's one of the few public personalities that can do that and get away with it. It's part of her uniqueness.
Not only that, she does it while building a business which turned her into a billionaire doing it.
A lot of people are in media, and very few, if any, have the type of personal connection with people Oprah has; and she does it across all races, genders and age groups. Again, she is unparalleled in this gift she has.
What I think does it for her is who she is in her personal life is exactly who she is onscreen. She doesn't try to become someone through marketing or creating a persona: what you see is what you get. And what you get ... people like.
This comes down to being true to who you are, and maintaining that over a long period of time. Oprah proves again that success is in being consistent and real with what it is you are as a brand. People can even be respectful of pretty bad people if they're not inconsistent with what they are portraying. Try to be something other than what you claim though, and people will make you pay for it.
People connect with Oprah because day after day she connects with them in a way that is genuine and real. She stands high above others in her chosen field because of it. So will we if we stay true to who we are.
