"I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election."
Margaret Thatcher's insight above is powerful, because it cuts through a lot of nonsense that's attributed to success, and gets to the bare bones of it. We're talking about foundations here, not the variety of things added on that are needed.
It's also interesting that one of the most powerful women in history also said concerning lessons learned in the home: "Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country."
What I want to center in on from Thatcher's comments and insights, are that regular life is connected more to success in any endeavor than the seemingly endless number of things put forth by "experts" on how to do things.
That's the point Thatcher is making, that life prepares you for everything, because everything is related to life. It's not like the problems change as you grow older or enter into new areas; they just will involve more people, not different problems.
All the foibles and interactions of life are experienced in the home, and those that come from a healthy home are most the time far more prepared for life than those that aren't.
This of course doesn't mean you can't succeed if you haven't come from a solid home, just that you will have different obstacles to overcome than those that have.
One of the most powerful foundations of success is drawing from the experience of home life we've all had from one degree or another. Don't underestimate it just because it seems like there's a disconnect when you enter the corporate world. There isn't.
