"See the competition as an invigorating challenge."
One of the greatest assets and benefits of capitalism is the engendering of competition. A large number of business owners and leaders fear rather than embrace competition. Competition ensures we will stay honest in our pursuit of excellence, while not sitting still.
If it wasn't for healthy competition, everything in business would slow down and great products and services would linger in the shadow of possibilities, rather than emerge as practical realities.
As Kelleher says, competition should be invigorating to us and challenging, rather than cause us to fear and cower. It's one of the greatest initiators of looking for ways to improve that exists.
Competition is what makes being in business so powerful and helpful to consumers, who are given endless options and choices they can choose from; most of which improve and enhance their lives.
What's amazing over the last years has been that in certain areas, competitors cooperate in specific arenas, to combat other groups of competitors who are doing the same. At the same time they do this, they compete directly in other unrelated categories.
The greatest thing that has helped the world, far more than almost anything else, has been the encouraging of competition in business. It offers the greatest opportunity for people and nations to emerge out of poverty and better themselves.
This may not sound win votes in most political elections or appointments, but is one of the most positive and helpful forces in the world today.
We should continually encourage the emerging of competition around the world, as it makes everybody else have to come up with ways to compete in a fiscally responsible way. Competition is what makes it happen. Bring it on!
