It seems somebody within Wal-Mart is obsessed with being successful offering more trendy women's clothing than the store now sells.
Wal-Mart (WMT) failed miserably in attempting to compete with their chief nemesis Target (TGT) in this area. Some even lost their jobs over it.
This time around the company will offer the new apparel exclusively online, with their new line called "z.b.d. design."
"At this time, we're testing this offering only online at Walmart.com," a Walmart.com spokeswoman said. "We'll continue to evaluate this line of merchandise and gauge customer feedback over the coming months."
For its brick and mortar stores, it was a huge failure as customers rejected the merchandise which caused the company to offer huge discounts which hurt their sales and margins.
As far as offering a more hip type of clothing online, it may make more sense, as the company says online shoppers at Walmart.com tend to skew to higher incomes than those shopping the physical stores.
For their brick and morter stores the company is finally getting back to the basics of what has made them so successful; something they should have never left in the first place.
