While Wal-Mart (WMT) may not be the first destination consumers think of when getting the upcoming release of "Halo 3," that may be about to change, as the retail giant gears up for the inevitable run on the game. Xboxcircle.com gave me a headsup on the story.
At 12:01, September 25, Wal-Mart advertises on their Halo 3 page that the fastest way to play is to get the game at their stores.
Some of the preparations the company is making is to have a lot of games on hand for fans, while they even set aside special checkout lanes for Halo 3 users alone. I like that personalized touch. The demand to get the game and quickly interact with it creates the frenzy of speed of service that users will appreciate.
The company also has a little teaser of Halo 3 dog tags that will be offered if consumers buy their games at the stores.
From a management point of view I like this, because it deals with the specific demographic in a way that caters to their specific desires. It's all about getting the game quick and being able to play it; it's as simple as that.
The added touch of offering checkouts specifically for Halo 3 consumers gives the feeling of caring about users' desires and should be a hit.
