I talked on another blog about the serious accident John Force suffered while racing in the Funny Car competition against Kenny Bernstein Sunday. You can see a video of the accident below.
Top Fuel winner Larry Dixon had this to say about Force, the accident and the safety procedures in place for the competition:
"I'm glad that (John Force is) alive. From that point you can fix anything. A lot of credit goes to the Safety Safari, the medical team, and the rules package for the way the cars have to be built so that you can survive an accident like that. I feel safer in my car that goes 330 mph than I do in my rental car going 55 mph on the way to the track. I feel like I could run over a nuclear bomb, and I trust in that. He'll be back racing one day. You can count on that."
The last post we talked about the importance of paying attention to the smallest details to ensure great customer service. Think of it from the safety point of view of the drivers in these types of competitions, who are in essence the customers of those protecting them to the best of their ability. In these cases it's literally the difference between life and death on how well they do their jobs.
When you listen to Dixon talk about how safe he feels in the cars, the medical team and the rules in place for building safe cars, this is a sport and business that has its act together.
It says a lot for the officials and management behind the scenes that present the sport to the public.
While I don't know this particular industry in detail, the responses of the ones injured with concern each others' safety, along with the praise for the safety teams and rules in place that show concern for the drivers, reveals an industry that has great relationships between all those involved: from drivers, to safety teams to leaders.
If business leaders could tap into that type of passion and apply it to their businesses and divisions, we'd see a lot more success all the way around.
What makes this specifically important, is when life and death circumstances are involved. It is at those times where what is simmering underneath a business culture can come out. What is coming out of the mouths of those involved in this industry, in this circumstance, is a great example of a tremendous team working for each other on all counts.
