Citing health concerns, politicians are now trying to interfere with restaurants, thinking they can legislate health.
The major tactic they're going to use is to ban new fast-food restaurants from certain areas of cities, or not allow new ones to be introduced.
A bill was also introduced in Congress that would attempt to increase the availability of nutritious food in poor economic areas. What a waste of time. How many people in low income, high crime areas have at the top or even middle of their agenda concerns about how many fast-food restaurants are serving what type of food?
People eat at fast-food places because they choose to. While people like to talk about fast-food being a problem, in reality many chains have added very healthy options if people choose to use them; the vast majority don't.
When people choose to do something, they'll do it whether stupid politicians attempt to legislate or not.
Some are even becoming delusional, as one Los Angeles Councilwoman, Jan Perry, said concerning fast-food restaurants: "The people don't want them, but when they don't have any other options, they may gravitate to what's there."
You talk about someone living in a make believe world! The reason there are so many fast-food restaurants is because people love them and patronize them, not because there's no other options. If people didn't want to go to them, they'd stop, and end up going to other alternatives.
What people eat is there choice. It doesn't matter whether politicians approve of it or not. Politicians need to spend their time doing something constructive rather than waste time with the latest activist fad.
