Millionaire entrepreneur Steve Fossett is missing after taking off from a private airstrip in western Nevada Monday. Fossett is an adverturer who became the first person to circle the world solo in a balloon, beating out one of his chief competitors Richard Branson.
Ian Gregor, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said, "The Civil Air Patrol is looking for him. One problem is he doesn't appear to have filed a flight plan. They are working on some leads, but they don't know where he is right now. "
The airstrip was located about 70 miles Southeast of Reno, Nevada. It was on hotelier Barron Hilton's Flying M Ranch.
Along with the Air Force's Rescue Coordination Center in Langley, Va., other joining the search are the Nevada Division of Emergency Management and the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Along with climbing some of the tallest mountains in the world, swimming the English Channel, Iditarod dog sled racing and car racing, Fossett also became the first person to fly solo around the world without refueling.
