In a major coup for the Eastman Kodak Company (EK), they announced they have entered into a deal with Wal-Mart (WMT) to sell inkjet printers at the retail giant.
The Easy Share inkjet 5100 printers will be available at 2,600 Wal-Mart stores across the US. They will retail for $130 each. The printers are also available at Office Depot and Best Buy.
Kodak asserts the all-in-one printer will be able to cut printing cost in half.
What's unique about it is its new print head which is permanent, versus the usual disposable types which reside in the ink cartridges themselves. This allows Kodak to sell the cartridges much cheaper: $10 for the black and white, $15 for the color.
This will work good with the discount focus Wal-Mart offers.
Ink cartridge costs are becoming an increasing factor in consumer buying, as digital photography has become popular, but expensive, as people print out so much of their creations.
This should be a real boost to Kodak sales.
