"I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple."
It's pretty amazing to see that some of the greatest accomplishments in life happen after some of the most challenging. When Jobs was fired by Apple (AAPL) he was 30 years old. He questioned at the time what he would do for the rest of his life; he felt he had peaked and his time of contribution was over.
Some of Jobs most important work was done after he spent time reflecting and looking at what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.
Many times we aren't able to break away from something in life, and when something unforeseen happens upon us, it's at those times when we take important moments to search for who and what we are.
Jobs said what kept him going during this period of time, and throughout his life, was the love of what he was doing. Of course the problem for some time was he was doing nothing.
When Jobs said above "none of this would have happened," he was talking about the following business and products like Pixar and the iPod, among a number of other things that followed that period of his life.
It was almost like the firing from Apple helped him to step out of the environment in many ways that he had created, to reinvent who he was. Once stepping out of the environment he was able to see things from different perspectives and insights. It changed his life forever.
Whether it's through challenges life brings us, or the discipline to be able to step out of our current situations to look at things objectively, it's an important part of renewing ourselves and recharging our creative juices and ideas. Jobs latter part of his business and personal life have been far more productive and successful than the earlier part.
It happened because he reassessed himself and directed the love of what he did into new, innovative products and businesses, without stopping believing in what he did.
