Michael Wolff has been enlisted by Doubleday to write a book on Rupert Murdoch and how he got to where he is today, along with the recent successful bid for the Dow Jones (DJ) company. The book is scheduled to be published in fall 2009.
"Drawing upon his unrivaled access to Rupert Murdoch himself, his business associates and his family members, Wolff will depict the intense corporate and family saga that forms the back story of the media mogul's ultimate consolation of power," Doubleday said in a statement. "In chronicling his remarkable ascendancy, he will bring to life Murdoch's views on business, himself, and the media, providing new insight into one of the most powerful, vivid, and fascinating men of our age."
A number of publishers were vying for the right to publish the story, with Penquin, Hachette and Simon & Schuster competing with Doubleday. The bidding finished early this week, and was headed by literary agent Andrew Wylie.
Wolf writes a column for Vanity Fair and is the author of Autumn of the Moguls, White Kids and Where We Stand and Burn Rate: How I Survived the Gold Rush Years on the Internet.
