"While many admired her toughness and determination, at home and abroad, others loathed what they regarded as her uncaring attitude to the casualties of economic change."
Those that loathe people who are agents of change never understand that change must happen. Very few understand economics and the cause and effect connected within it.
The reason people like Margaret Thatcher can't enter into this times of change with some type of artificial sympathy is because they would falter when they are doing the most good.
It doesn't matter what a person is involved with: change brings about casualities. There are those unwilling to change that we refer to as dinosaurs. They think everything will go on as it always has even as they start to realize their numbers are dwindling down to nothing.
Those who initiate change like Thatcher know if they don't help bring about needed changes, in the long-term there will be extraordinary devastation as the extinction of what is happening today becomes a reality.
We need leaders in the world like Margaret Thatcher who are willing to take the risks - along with the criticisms - for doing what is best for people.
Time after time those that refuse to change are the ones who end up being casualities. Can we force them to change? If we did what would that make us?
Those who have to be tough and initiate the changes needed for the welfare of people, will always be viewed as uncaring by those not willing to take responsibility. In the end, change demands taking responsibility, and that's what is really behind the loathing and hatred of those unwilling to adapt to the changing world around them.
Any business not willing to adapt and change will find themselves in longer a significant player in the game and of little value to those working in it and the customers they serve.
To this day I don't know of an answer for those that aren't willing to adapt and change. I'm not talking about in core values and purpose here, but to the way we work and serve people.
As the needs and desires of people change, so must we. Anything less will be entropy and extinction; something any great leader refuses to give in to. Margaret Thatcher refused to give in to the forces that were devastating and holding back the British people and other peoples of the world.
Anybody with that type of determination will have their share of enemies. It comes with the territory.
