Who would you want to work with the next 30 years?
Buffett asked this question above to a group of people visiting him in Omaha at one time.
After he asked it, he said, "the person you've gone long is probably someone who is honest, courageous, and dependable."
Then he asked them the type of person they would want to work with for only a short while. He said concerning that, "the person you've shorted is probably someone who is egotistical and likes to take the credit."
The point he was making is in business, like in all of life, there were choices to make. Success in whatever we pursue is connected to the choices we make, not something we are born with.
So the time to choose to be honest, courageous and dependable is now, according to Buffett. The longer you go on without making these decisions, the harder it will be to change. So today, now, that's the time to make the proper choices.
After he said this, then he turned it around upon them and said the person who you would want to work for 30 year with: "you become that person."
Great advice isn't it. Look at the traits you'd want in someone, and then turn it around and make the decision to become that person. Do that and many businesses and leaders will want to work with you. It's a choice we all make, not a birthright.
Buffett always looked for this in the managers of the companies he bought or invested in for Berkshire (BRK-A).
