"The more they know, the more they’ll understand. The more they understand, the more they’ll care. Once they care, there’s no stopping them."
The confused mind will never buy or make a decision; the confusion guarantees that it will happen. Even those that do buy, end up with buyers remorse if they're confused afterwards. I've seen that happen many times in training people in sales where they don't go through some of the important aspects of what a consumer just bought, and you can predict which ones will call back the next day to cancel
the sale.
This is the same with our people. While we talk about openness of communication and using any and all means to get our message out their to our people, along with their message to us.
Look at what Sam Walton says above in that there won't be people that care if the process of communcation isn't going on at all times. The reason why is lack of knowledge, which will result in confusion, causes a worker to not buy in to what we're doing. How can they buy in if they don't know what to buy in to?
When we have a serious commitment to getting any and all information to our people, whether it's from us directly or through other open communication outlets, they will commit to that which they understand. Not understanding itself makes anybody feel like others don't care. And if leadership doesn't care, our people won't either.
It's more than only communication of course, it's what is being communicated. While we do need to talk strategies and make final decisions as business leaders, much of what we get will also come from our people as well. We need to communicate important, vital knowledge to our people that can help them to reach their highest potential, no matter where it comes from across the company. When it comes from others, give them credit; whether it's an individual, team or department.
Reaching their highest potential only comes if they care. Caring, as Walton says, comes from open communications about things that everyone needs to know. The more open and important the information shared, the more people will feel part of who we are. The more they feel a vital part of the company, the more they will care, the more they care, the more they'll achieve results beyond what we could imagine.
We can't hoard needed information for our people. Open it up and let them go. We can't be afraid of our competitors learning about it, they will anyhow. If we share it and have our unique business culture, others can never truly copy it, as it will be filtered through who we uniquely are.
As far as letting our people know all they can; the more we share, the more they'll care. Get them to care and nothing can stop them from achieving great things for the company and those they serve.
