Part two of the video series on hiring talks about hiring in relationship to growth and opportunities. It talks about how many companies wait too long to address a need, and the result is scrambling and pressure to fill that position.
The result is you put together a quick job description which a potential hire finds somewhere in an ad, or whatever, and they come in with their list that they fit to match what they know you want. They will use their pass-the-interview book to fake their way through the interview where they don't really show forth who they are but what you want to hear. The result is a disaster.
The medicine for hiring for growth and opportunity, according to the video is to prepare what is called a "virtual bench." This basically means you and your people have cultivated relationships that result in a list of people that could work great within the company when the need may arise.
With the knowledge of who these people really are and their attitude and skills, it provides a ready pool of workers that can be contacted far before the need is there to interview and talk with to see if they would fit into the business.
With the available list and the continual keeping up with it and talking about who's on it and how they can fit into the company, opportunity and team, you are prepared for times when the need arises to find someone to fit into it.
