When a company isn't built upon a strong, focused vision, everything else within the company will struggle.
Profit can never be the purpose of a company, profit can only be a measuring stick to see if the company is performing its vision.
How can we even think of hiring if we don't know what we're hiring toward? What type of person will fit into our vision? If we have no specific vision, how can we have guidlines and parameters to guide all aspects of the business? How can we guide existing workers if we don't have a specific path we're following?
When you consider marketing for example, how can we even know how to start and conduct a campaign, or even know the words to use if we don't know who we are? How can we build products and services if they aren't connected to a purpose and vision?
A vision must always be connected to that which makes us unique from our competitors and helps us to stand out from the crowd. If we can't determine that, how can we formulate plans to go forward?
Everything in a business is built out from our vision. If a vision isn't precise, neither will anything else be. Without a vision we'll flounder and be in a perpetual state of uncertainty and confusion. A clear vision is a compass that keeps us on path while all the forces around us beckon us to get distracted from our journey.
