“I think I overcame every single one of my personal shortcomings by the sheer passion I brought to my work. I don’t know if you’re born with this kind of passion, or if you can learn it. But I do know you need it.”
The majority of us know about the need to have passion, and as Sam Walton says here, every one of his personal shortcomings had been overcome by his sheer passion for what he was doing. What I want to center on in this post is what passion does for our shortcomings.
Our shortcomings are our shortcomings, there isn't much we can do about changing them. There are certain things we're just built for, when we go outside
of those areas we flounder like a fish out of the sea. This doesn't mean they can't be improved upon, just that we'll never truly master these areas.
Enter passion! Some of what passion does for us is allows us to keep on with things while we go through those frustrating times where we either must perform things we're not very good at, or helps us to overpower it by sheer determination.
Another key element from passion is it urges us to keep on looking for solutions in spite of our shortcomings. It can either be through our own ideas, research or other people. Either way, what passion does is not allow us to settle for less even if we don't have the answer. It causes us to search until we're satisfied that it's what is needed.
Passion is a great equalizer as far as our lacks go, and is a great competitive advantage over those that don't have it. More than anything else, Wal-Mart (WMT) was built upon passion, so is any successful venture.
