Branson writes his staff "chitty-chatty" letters to tell them everything that is going on and to encourage them to write him with any ideas or suggestions.
The more we read about the great managers of companies, the more the importance of communication comes to the front. With Branson it was no different.
When the people in our companies are communicated to on a steady basis about everything that's going on, it does something that's hard to measure, but is vital to the success of our people and our businesses.
It gives the feeling of being part of something by being reminded of all the things that are being done around the company. It also gives the feeling of being part of
something bigger than yourself.
Another aspect of great managers that Branson also practiced was looking for and soliciting ideas from people across the numerous Virgin companies.
No only that, but he even solicits ideas from anybody that wants to offer them up to him. If he likes them, he'll go into business with you.
The point is that there is an openness in Branson which filters throughout the company and those outside of it that creates the atmosphere and environment that produces extraordinarily unique and creative ideas that end up producing interesting, and for the most part, profitable companies.
It goes back to this being part of his personal core values and what he wants out of the Virgin brand he's created.
