The Democrats and Hillary Clinton's fear of Wal-Mart (WMT) reveals one of the problems that businesses face as long as people think that big government has all the answers.
Brian Williams asked Clinton at the recent debate on whether she thought Wal-Mart was positive or negative for America.
"Well because when Wal-Mart started, it brought goods into rural areas, like rural Arkansas where I was happy to live for 18 years."
She's so happy to live their that she moved to one of the few places where she could have been elected.
"And it gave people a chance to stretch their dollar further. But as they grew much bigger, though, they have raised serious questions about the responsibility of corporations and how they need to be a leader when it comes to providing health care and having safe working conditions and not discriminating on the basis of sex or race or any other category."
Serious questions? Right around 91 percent of Wal-Mart employees have health coverage. Other the other stuff is a bunch of rhetoric to try to get some union money for her campaign.
"Brian, this is all part, though, of how this Administration and corporate America today don't see middle class and working Americans. They are invisible."
Then why do lower and middle class Americans save over $2,000 a year if Wal-Mart doesn't see them?
"They don't understand that if you're a family that can't get health care, you're really hurting."
Quit whining about your pathetic attempt and rejection by the American people of your socialist health care plan.
"But to the corporate elite and to the Administration and the White House, you're invisible. If you can't afford college, you're invisible. So I think we need to get both public sector and private sector leadership to start stepping up and being responsible and taking care of people."
This is the old liberal line: they'll take care of us poor people. Wal-Mart does it as good as anybody by providing the most jobs of anybody in the private sector in America.
As Star Parker said in her column,
"While Clinton is dreaming about having a chance to re-introduce her once-rejected plans for universal health care, Investors Business Daily reported this week the following about Wal-Mart":
"The retail colossus announced this week that it will open as many as 400 in-store medical clinics in the next two to three years. By 2014, it said, clinics could be in as many as half its 4000 stores ... While others whine about America's health-care 'crisis' and back monstrous government programs to solve it, Wal-Mart is actually making health care more-affordable.
"Already, Wal-Mart has brought low-cost health care by selling 30-day supplies of more than 300 generic prescriptions at some stores for $4. Almost a third of those $4 prescriptions are bought by the uninsured. Customers have saved $290 million ... since September.''
So why are the Democrats and Hillary so fearful of Wal-Mart? They're afraid that people will begin to see that the private sector and business can better take care of these things and give better answers than the government can. It exposes the weak underbelly of the liberal agenda to have healthy companies emerge and have this type of success.
That's why many times across the world when companies become successful they come under strong attack. Governments don't like to have people be reminded that there are other options out there that are better than the government hand-out programs. This strikes fear in the hearts of those that don't want this to be discovered by the everyday person.
As Star Parker said, Wal-Mart is actually doing something about the problem, Hillary and the Democrats are still whining that they lost the health care battle.
To me it doesn't matter what political persuasion we are, the place of business and its purpose does far more to help people than any government in the world ever will.
