Notes and Interview from "Billionaire Next Door" - Part Two
In the second part of the Warren Buffett interview with CNBC, he talks a lot about his contentment with his life in general, and the importance of living away from New York and other big-city hubs.
For him, he talks about the greatest luxory he has, and that is to do what you love to do, and to do it with great people.
He also talks about why he likes living in Omaha and how it gives him an advantage. He said when he was in New York, he would hear about 100 ideas before noon on what was a great investment. He said that all he needed was one great idea a year. Another part of the problem he said that is many out there get overstimulated with the go-go atmosphere and can take away from the freedom to think for yourself; and to think clearly.
In this interview he also talks about loving a simple lifestyle. He doesn't travel with a large entourage or have a security detail around him. He said he would hate to live that way. The only time he has security around him is at the annual shareholders meeting.
There is nothing about him that he doesn't live before anyone. He is totally transparent. He adds that what you see is what you get. Basically there are no surprises.
He went to Israel not too long ago to look at a business he bought and was asked if he heard from investors about being concerned for his safety and their investment in him. His response was that because he was in the insurance business, he understood infrequent events, and didn't have any concern about being in danger.
