"I had to pick myself up and get on with it, do it all over again, only even better this time."
Walton was talking about a particularly tough circumstance he went through with Wal-Mart (WMT) when saying what he said above.
But he had a vision and purpose that had hold of him and it was unthinkable that he would let it go; as a matter of fact he couldn't.
It didn't bother him to lose big, because in the long haul, he knew he would get what he wanted. Other times he's added that once he learns from setbacks, he
pretty much forgets about the results and goes on a little wiser than before.
I also like his additional comment that not only will he do it all over again, but he'll even to it better. These types of simple beliefs are the real difference between success and failure in business leadership.
All setbacks are temporary if we understand life at all. The ability to take a learning experience and then simply start over again, is a characteristic that ensures success.
To me, one of the key things is not sit there lingering around feeling sorry for ourselves for too long a time. Sure we need to deal with the situation both practically and emotionally - but then get on with it. Take the lesson and even build something better.
