"We’re all working together; that’s the secret."
The statement above has been repeated by so many business leaders for so long that it has lost a lot of its edge from becoming common.
I do want to mention one thing behind this statement that isn't common, and that is saying it and doing it are two different things.
What does working together imply? It implies that there are a people that truly believe in the mission of a company. It implies that they work endlessly behind the scenes to spread the purpose and message of the company so that it is understood by everyone.
The greatest implication to me though is that if you can get everyone in a business on the same page and working toward the common purpose, you've done something that very few have ever been able to do. It starts with leadership in a company and the vision it has.
It takes a commitment to continuous communication and removing walls and barriers that attempt to stop the flow of information.
Yes the secret is working together, as Sam Walton said about the success of Wal-Mart (WMT), but it goes way deeper than that to taking the steps to ensure that the opportunity to work together is permeated throughout the entire company. Those that do this will be able to move fast and quick in times when that can be the difference between failure and success.
