Richard Branson - Lessons in Business, Management and Life - 73

The Team Behind the Scenes

With the aura of strong independence dancing around him, and the seemingly endless ideas and big dreams that seem to roll out of his mind, you would think that Richard Branson is some type of individualist superstar that has done it all on his own. That would be misleading to think that it was the way he reached his success.

Every great leader has a great team in place that makes things happen. With Branson it's no different. If Branson didn't have the supporting cast he does, there simply wouldn't be a Virgin business or the numberous companies under its umbrella.

He has the usual cast of aides around him, but more importantly his personal assistant of 30 years, Penni Pike, who is credited with as least keeping Branson on track, because it's impossible to keep him on time.

Richard%20Branson%27s%20mastermind%20group.jpgFor the businesses themselves, Branson has surrounded himself with an advisory team that has the job of taking his unique and varied ideas and hammering them into some semblance of a corporate structure so that it is makes sense and engages investors while making it attractive to him.

Without these people, as with all great leaders, there is no Branson. He would just be another guy spewing out all the ideas and dreams he has and all of them ending up falling to the ground.

It's imperative that there is a team of people centered around any business leader that exists for the purpose of making ideas into something tangible and profitable. Nobody that's made a significant impact historically has been without such a group of people around them.

Great leaders are truly great because they know who they need to surround themselves with; that's their true, underlying contribution.
