The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) named Wal-Mart (WMT) as one of the top 35 companies for executive women. The business was selected for its various programs and initiatives that are built to help foster participation by women in the workplace and support them in helping them reach their business leadership goals.
Some of the criteria that NAFE uses to select companies is the number of women in a company in general, women in senior management, as well as on the board of directors. They also look at what type of programs are in place to encourage women into management.
"
At Wal-Mart, we invest in all of our associates. We are dedicated to enabling women to succeed in and outside the workplace. Whether it's offering industry-leading career training programs and creating opportunities for advancement or providing a network of support, we are committed to the women within our company," said Charlyn Jarrells Porter, senior vice president and chief diversity officer, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. "We are honored to be recognized by NAFE for our continued efforts to support and promote women in all facets of our organization."
The company is made up of 61 percent of its associates being women, with 40 percent of management being female as well. There are over 100 women installed as managers in the company.
Another little-known fact is that Wal-Mart also partners with over 1,400 women-owned business suppliers, while offering support for a number of organizations serving women, including the Hispanic Women's Corporation, Network of Executive Women and the League of Black Women, among a number of others.
