"I chose as my standard the Golden Rule: 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' Some might consider the Golden Rule corny and old-fashioned, but no one can deny its simple truth."
The fact that Mary Kay included in her above quote the idea that "Some might consider the Golden Rule corny and old-fashioned," reveals to me how far we have been removed from this powerful concept.
When it really comes down to it for management, if we really did live by this rule, it would revolutionize everything. But we get caught up instead in complex theories and systems, many times originating from those that have never run or managed a business. The result is usually chasing after things that aren't near as
important as the simple golden rule.
For those of us in management and business leadership, we really shouldn't be concerned about what people think about us in our embracing of powerful concepts like the "golden rule."
There's nothing old or worn out about genuinely caring about people, and it never will be. Anything that we do in business should be connected to and based upon it. If we were to make more decisions based upon that, it would truly make any business much more remarkable and successful. Who can resist someone that treats them better than anybody else?
Hopefully this is something that will never go out of fashion.
