"When you reach an obstacle, turn it into an opportunity."
There is something about obstacles that we need to learn to embrace. Part of it is that if nothing is ever standing in your way, you're not traveling on any road. If we're not traveling on any road, we have no goal set before us. If nothing is challenging us, we're pretty much in a terrible place.
I like to think of it in reference to sales. When I was a sales manager for a company, one of the things that all of us dreaded is if the person we were talking to didn't have questions or objections. That's of course one of the basics, but nonetheless it still holds true. It's another way of saying if someone doesn't bring any objections, or we could call them "obstacles" to the conversation, we know we've done something wrong or haven't communicated effectively.
Obstacles are opportunites because it proves that we're traveling in a certain direction, and resistance to what we're offering is also a confirmation that we are a minimum doing something right. When there is no interest or resistance is when there is cause to be concerned.
Mary Kay and others have always been right when they talk about turning obstacles or challenges into opportunities. But I would even say that obstacles are the opportunities. They give us direction as to what we need to overcome or change in order to keep on the road we're traveling.
Obstacles are the things that generate creativity and innovation as they make us search and look for answers in places that we haven't thought of before. We should gladly hope for and look for them as they are signposts that guide us on our way.
