"Before you ever receive the wonderful treasures of a happy life, you must first give. Give of yourself."
With Mary Kay, when she spoke the types of things she did, you had to realize that she really didn't separate her private from her professional life. To read what she said as a encouragement to one or the other would be to misunderstand her.
That's the case with what she mentions above. Put anything in the first part of the statement up to the first comma, and you could end it with the words afterwords for almost anything related to success.
With management and business, the rule she mentions above should take care of the vast majority of problems you have, if they are truly part of the core of the company.
The point she's making is that if you help others with what they want, you'll get everything you'll want. This is true with management and business leadership also.
If we will focus on what we can do and give to and for others, the rest will fall into place for us. It is a law that can be counted on. Very few people are willing to go to the lengths to make sure it's done right. Those that do are always successful, no matter what they are trying to accomplish.
When we lead by example in this area, like Mary Kay did, it will fill the company with that type of servant mentality that will take care of and head of the types of problems that many companies encounter because they look at customer service or their relationship with their workers as something other than caring about people. It's nothing more or less than that.
Nothing will succeed without the attitude and actions that come with giving of yourself first. Mary Kay led the way in this.
